Defensive Shooting Labs offers certification and permit courses to meet Colorado’s requirements for concealed carry, hunter education, professional licensing, and youth firearms safety. All courses are taught by experienced instructors and meet state and county requirements. Class sizes are kept small to ensure individual attention.

Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP)

Colorado requires a training course to apply for your Concealed Handgun Permit. This course covers Colorado firearm law, safe handling and storage, and live-fire qualification. You’ll leave with the certificate required to apply at your county sheriff’s office. No prior experience necessary.

CHP Renewal

Colorado CHPs expire every five years. Our renewal course satisfies the state’s continuing training requirement with updated legal information and a live-fire refresher. Bring your current or recently expired permit.

Multi-State Permit

Expand your carry rights beyond Colorado. We offer non-resident permit courses for states with broad reciprocity agreements, significantly increasing the number of states where you can legally carry. Contact us for current state availability.

Hunter Safety & Hunter Education

Required for first-time hunters in Colorado born after January 1, 1949, this course covers wildlife conservation, firearm and ammunition basics, field safety, and Colorado hunting regulations. Successful completion provides the certification needed to purchase a hunting license.

Armed Security Guard Certification

Colorado requires armed security personnel to complete firearms training before licensure. This course covers use-of-force law, threat assessment, and live-fire qualification to meet state requirements for armed security professionals.

Bail Bond Agent Firearms Qualification

Colorado bail bond agents authorized to carry firearms must complete required training. This course covers the legal framework for bail bond agents, situational awareness, and live-fire qualification specific to the profession.

Youth Firearms Safety

DSL provides a structured introduction to firearms safety for younger shooters, covering the fundamental rules of firearm safety, proper handling, range etiquette, and supervised live fire. Age requirements and parental consent apply — contact us for details.

What to Expect

All licensing courses include classroom instruction and live-fire components unless otherwise noted. Students should bring a valid government-issued photo ID, eye and ear protection (available for purchase on-site if needed), and any existing permits or certifications relevant to their course. Ammunition is included in course fees unless noted at registration. Firearms are available for students who do not have their own. Closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are required — our ranges are outdoors.
